Elephant Sands, Botswana

So we’re sitting in the dry grasslands of Botswana in a camping ground pitched around a wild watering hole. We’re sitting beside a roaring campfire enjoying a beer from the bar hut also pitched by the watering hole.
The campsite is in a wild area, with elephants, antelopes, buffalo and other wild animals roaming in and out. Earlier on we caught a glimpse of a loan elephant which wondered through the camp to take a drink at the watering hole, it proceeded to splash around for a while before spending several minutes staring at us staring back at it, before gracefully disappearing back into the dry brown bush around.
The journey here took 7 hours from the Botswana boarder, where we set up camp last night after a 12 hour bus ride through South Africa.
As I’m sitting hear I can hear the constant hum of the desert, its like something straight out of a BBC Wildlife on One episode, we’re truly in the thick of an African Adventure.
Earlier while the African sun was setting we were in a very salty pool enjoy a beer. All the water is salty here because of the high evaporation rate and the heavy overflow of the nearby delta. I forgot this fact when I got in the shower and inadvertently got a mouthful…yuck.
The alcohol is cheap so we can feel free to spoil ourselves after a very bumpy and long bus journey. The atmosphere is so chilled, everyone is happy and so relaxed. The noise of the wilderness comes alive at night and in the early morning. The frogs are especially funny and the hippo last night scared the life of me.
Just to clarify, we took that picture of the elephant!
